The Hobbiton Movie Set is one of New Zealand’s most iconic attractions, giving you the chance to step into the magical world of Middle-earth. Located on the green pastures of the Alexander family farm in Waikato, this special place brings the Shire from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films to life.

On the guided tour, you’ll walk past colourful Hobbit Holes tucked into the hills, including the well-known Bag End, home of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins. Step inside a Hobbit home at Bagshot Row before crossing the stone bridge to the Mill House and the Green Dragon Inn, where you can relax and enjoy a complimentary beverage to complete your visit.

Tour Duration

Approximately a 7-hour tour. The Hobbiton Tour is 2.5 hours long

You will have the opportunity to have refreshments at the Shire’s Rest before we start heading back to your cruise ship.

Tour Price

Hobbiton Tour Transfers – This is a Charter Tour NZ$180.00 per hour – 7 hour tour. Transfer price only, entrance fees not included.

Minimum block booking – 6 seats (Adults or children), maximum 11 seats.

All tours to view Hobbiton must be pre-booked with specific tour times. Advanced bookings for the Hobbiton Day Tour are essential.

Booking Entrance tickets – this will be booked by Scott Tours with a minimum of 6 seats – maximum 11 seats (adults/children).

Payment in full for the entrance tickets will be required upon confirmation of your tour time.

Hobbiton Tour Itinerary

Hobbiton is located in the Waikato, which is a 1.5 hours drive from Tauranga.

Our Hobbiton Day Tour starts with a drive around the beautiful Mount Maunganui beaches before we head off across the Kaimai Ranges views of the Waikato province and pass through farmland, giving you an idea of rural life in New Zealand.

Arriving at Hobbiton, you will board the Middle-Earth bus for a 2.5-hour guided tour of the Hobbiton movie set and farm, ending your tour with a complimentary drink at the Green Dragon.

You will have the opportunity to have refreshments at the Shires Rest before we start heading back to Tauranga.

Due to peak traffic times, the journey is very much time related to get you to Hobbiton 20 minutes prior to your tour departure time and to get you back to Tauranga. Cruise ship passengers have a particular time frame returning 1.5 hours prior to your departure time.

Land based passengers are slightly less time bound and more flexible. Every effort will be made by Geoff, your Tour Director/Driver to include some scenic drive by highlights if time allows.

Great day at Wai-O-Tapu with Geoff We had a fantastic day visiting Wai-O-Tapu and the Redwoods Forest. Trixie met us right at the cruise port, making everything easy and stress-free from the start. The living Maori Village Whakarewarewa We had a marvelous day at Maori Village by way of a tour booked with Scott Tours. Geoff & Trixie were wonderful they said the Village would be a amazing experience and it was awesome.

Wonderful Wai-o-Tapu with Geoff A brilliant day with a New Zealand professional. Geoff was prompt to pick my husband and I up from the cruise terminal. His van was clean and comfortable. Geoff did a good job of managing our time as we arrived via cruise ship and had to be back early in the afternoon. Geoff’s knowledge of the thermal baths allowed us to move through the park focusing on the important highlights. He is a patient picture taker and accommodated our special requests. More importantly, he was a man of integrity and ran the tour even though the group was small. Wai-o-Tapu was a great place to visit made even more special as we had a professional directing our tour. Recommend Scott Tours highly.

Best Day!!! We met Geoff from Scott’s tours and he told us we’d have a really good experience…… He was not wrong!!!! He showed us around a working Māori museum, which was awesome had lunch and a fabulous guide called Tier. We then went went around a local park with a natural hot foot bath, then a high tree walk and finally a little walk around a forest….. What an amazing experience we had! Thank you Geoff!!!

Private tour for eight We had a great day in Rotorua and Tauranga. Geoff was so accommodating as we changed our mind last minute on some things. We did the Redwood Tree Walk, lunch at the Secret Spot and a quick stop at Kuirau Park to see geothermal activity. He also took us shopping. Great Rotorua trip with Maori village visit and much more with nice guide We originally had other booking for Tauranga area (Rotorua trip), but they could not do it and they recommended Scott Tour. We were just 2 of us for Rotorua day trip. Geoff was our driver and he organized for us Maori village visit (including dance / singing performance and hot springs walk). On top of that Geoff showed us kiwi vineyard, redwood forest and told us a lot of interesting things about Rotorua neighborhood, but also about New Zealand life. It was great value for money trip with very pleasant person.

Geothermal tour of Rotorua from Tauranga, New Zealand with Scott Tours Today we took a tour of the geothermal area of Rotorua, New Zealand. Geoff and Trixie of Scott Tours were very helpful in setting up the trip, and their phone number is on WhatsApp. Trixie met us at the Port Gate in Tauranga, and Geoff gave us an outstanding tour of the Waiotapu Thermal Park. We took a number of photos and videos of the geothermal features that captured the sights and sounds, but not the sulfurous odors. This tour is most highly recommended!
